Larnaca

Larnaca is a peaceful resort on Cyprus Island. The most distinguishing feature of the town is its large seafront walkway with the palm trees that is lined with taverns and cafes. The city has a very historic appearance. On one end of Larnaca, the Marina welcomes international yachts and on the other part of the town there is a fortress of the 17th century, now the Larnaca Medieval Museum. Close by there are Pierides Establishment and the Larnaca region Archaeological Museums for Remarkable antiquities and the Larnaca Municipality Cultural Centre for more new shows.

On the outskirts of the town is the main airport of Cyprus. The airport is situated on the opposite side of the Larnaca salt lake where flamingos and other migratory birds can be found. In addition on the border of the town is the 18th century channel called Kamares. Much smaller than Nicosia or Limassol, Larnaca has a population of 62.000 and has managed to retain a relaxed, leisurely atmosphere. Its main shopping area is Zenon Kitieos Street a typically busy area with small shops.

The Larnaca coastline offers large stretches of safe sandy beaches that go on for miles. The two main beaches in Larnaca are Mckenzie on the outskirts and Dhekelia beach which stretches for miles forming the backdrop to many of Larnaca’s hotels.
